What’s wrong with my dryer?

I don’t know if it’s appropriate to ask this question here, but here it goes:
I have an old ass Whirlpool dryer that does’t dry my clothes any more. Everything else works fine – it tumbles and the timer works and whatnot. I’m going to guess that my dumbshit now ex-girlfriend decided to do her month’s worth of laundry without cleaning out the lint trap, causing a short or something. I took out the back plating and found this:

my dad said the disconnection was nothing to worry about, and that there was something wrong with the heating coils (I don’t know if that’s the right terminology, something was probably lost in translation). But I don’t know… I don’t want to have to dig through the back of my dryer any more than I have to. Do you think if I just replace this, I can get my dryer back to its normal self or is my dad right? Something else? Much thanks…

CLIFFS: Dryer doesnt get hot, found a disconnected/burnt end of the outlet cord, is this the problem or something else?
your heater probably went out. probably the most common thing wrong with dryers. either replace it, or buy a new one
It’s not the ex-girlfriend. Even if she stuffed a frozen yak into the dryer, it will operate correctly, or, if faulty, will draw excess current and trip the breaker/blow a fuse.

The burned terminal pictured is likely the result of a loose connection at the dryer cord. Clean everything up and reconnect it. See if the heater works on all cycles. Depending on how the unit is wired, low heat will operate on 110, but high heat will require both sides of the 220 connection. If you still fail to get heat, then other problems exist, such as a bad thermostat, faulty mode selector, or an open heating element.
Just buy a new one. You’ll make me feel better, because I just did. My washer AND dryer crapped out on me at the same time.
