What kind of beds are you using?

Currently, my wife and I have a Simmons Back Care mattress that we bought about five years ago. We didn’t do as much homework as we should, and now as I research the bed, I’m finding that our results are very similar to most everyone else. Those results are the bed breaking down already, body impressions, etc.

My wife thinks she wants a new bed so we checked out a local dealer of beds, called . The beds are extremely comfortable, and I love the technology they use in them, however the cost is very, very high. For example, for the bed we liked, a queen model would run $3100, a cal-king (the next size up from Queen at this place): $4200.

If the bed lasts the 10 years they claim, that’s still $400/yr for a bed . I’d rather find a bed that will last 5-7 years for considerably less, and still be just as comfortable. We’re going to hit the local mattress dealer this week to see what they offer and at what cost, so I thought I’d start here. What kind of beds are you all using, and what do you recommend?

Primary concerns for a bed are good support – my wife had back surgery for scoliosis as a kid so she has a mostly fused back with rods and such. I can sleep and be comfortable on most anything, I just want to be sure she’s as comfortable as can be to avoid lingering pain.

Thanks, all.
I have a bed from the Original Mattress Factory. They build to order.
The flat kind.

Seriously though, I just have a Serta with a foam topper. I considered getting an all-foam mattress, but those things get soft with time (I have a memory foam pillow, that’s how I know) and I don’t need something that traps so much heat that I’ll sweat my ass off every night.

EDIT: That said, you’ll be hard-pressed to find something more pressure-relieving than a memory foam mattress. If you don’t want to spring for a king-size, consider getting a twin-size memory foam mattress for her and a twin-size WTFever mattress for you, and putting them next to each other. It’ll come out to the same size as a king.
We have this:

We’ve had it for about a year, maybe a little less. It’s very comfortable. It is a pillow top, so it’s pretty soft. I think it still gives some support, but probably not the best choice if she likes a firm mattress. There is a bit of an indentation where each of us sleeps, but I think that’s unavoidable with pillow top mattresses.
we have a denver mattress doctors choice. it was pretty inexpensive too plus the last in stock so we got a deal for about 400, originally 700. its fine right now. well see if we should have spent more a couple years from now
Forgot to mention, our king size mattress was about $1200 after taxes and whatnot. I think the same bed can be had for a bit less now though.
LOL…I’m presently on a backcare myself. These are too plush. The firmer parts on the edges feel pretty nice though. I normally sleep on a SelectRest Venetian extra firm. We got it at cost since we have a furniture store.

Why not file a warranty claim?
Yeah I have thought about that too. I need to pursue that avenue. I wonder if the impressions are deep enough though – I guess they have to be 1.5" or more?

It sounds like she’s been having off and on problems that she is just now relating to this bed for about 3 years though, so we may need to get a nicer, more custom bed for her needs. I feel terrible for her – her back pain must be insane. Just knowing how my leg is with a plate and some screws in it, I don’t want to imagine how her back, all fused and stuff, is

I bought a Berkshire Collection King Size pillow top for $700 a few years ago and I love it. By far one of the best purchases I have ever made. Berkshire beds also come with a 20 year warranty.
Figured theres no other reason to make a new thread.. but sorry to highjack your thread.. ><

I’m looking to buy a queen size mattress… I have no idea wtf I’m looking for, or what to look for… But I’m looking preferably for a spring mattress thats pretty soft (not so firm)…
My price range is 200-400, any suggestions? Or anything just a tad bit outside of my range?
-Thanks
we have a tempurpedic and honestly, its the shit. its not the fall onto a cloud comfort but after you lay on the bed, it is perfect in all the right places. give them a go if you are in the neighborhood of those kinds of prices.
I have a sleep number bed, and I love it. I dont know how I slept before I got it. They have one with one or two air chaimbers I dont know about the ones with two chaimbers though, I could see it being kinda shitty rolling over onto a divider… they arent that expensive I think I paid $1200. for my queen size.
