We finally decided to grow our own indoors…
basil, fuckers.
Why not use one of those loittle herb gardens from tv?
Already had a cabinet not in use and some flourescent bulbs in the garage
I’m growing basil too.
Chia herb garden
lol thats kind of like my indoor garden

g/f cooks a LOT. Likes having fresh herbs on hand.
We are moving to a new place in March that will have room for gardening, but we figured we could start some plants indoor beforehand, too.

2 foot long flourescents. 4 of them, 2 are soft white, two are plant. Home Depot stocks em.
No water source in the garage unfortunately. And since transplanting to outdoors, starting soil is easiest.
From your previous "Basil" grow?
Fucking fantastic. Home grown veges, herbs are the best
Thinking about growing anything else?
Buddy was growing: tomatoes, cucumber,habenero,peppers,parsley
That’s a LOT of fucking basil…why not some mint or thyme to go with it? Or is that for after you move?

She went to the store, but her order for seeds was $130 bucks, so yea… and she already has some too. Everything from Echinachea (sp?) to garlic to tomatoes.
I might try some hops and see how they do. Will need trellis for the tomatos anyhow, right….
175?
Mine was… um, free basically.

Yeah man, with those pricey things, I think you have to buy their seed pods too. Fuck that.
you can get kits that let you grow whatever you want
I was just referring to that particular one that was linked. Do you know of any particularly good ones?
a $5 timer is all you need.
I don’t know what you mean.
I just grow my peppers/ herbs in little pots next to the window. I was asking about specific kits to better control the climate/light etc.
and for the light, shop lights with florescent bulbs in them work. One per plant costs about $3 each.
Ohh.. alright. This is coming together now.
I grow basil in the spring (So Cal). it does very well for awhile, then one morning, i go out and it looks like someone poured boiling water all over it.
I think i have some kind of basil virus in the soil.
This is my little operation right now.
I have only been doing this for like 6 weeks or so, so I have a lot to learn
In that picture, I have garlic, a bonsai tree, green peppers, tomatoes, squash, twilight peppers, basil, and dill, And a few of my gf’s plants, which I have no idea about.
This is my little cactus greenhouse I started last week and a dying tomato plant.
Yeah, I did. that’s why they are under the lamp Is that a good solution?
the ones in the other room are looking better.

yank em and give them some new soil - about 50% of what you have there now, 50% new dry and aerate it a tad more. Then light and water via mist (folial feeding FTW) until better. Dont put the light TOO close tho, the beads of water can act like a magnifying glass and burn the leaves.
From one of my earlier experiements, I learned that basil is a bitch to transplant. I guess its hard on the roots.
probably doing it too soon, need a really good rootball.. if you rip/tear em at all, the plant stunts a while to fix em.
Cool thanks. I will do that.
I have been misting with my iron sprayer.
how’s the home-grown basil? my mom told me not to bother because its shit quality compared to stuff avail for purchase
Thats insanity.
We do completely organic indoor, so no bugs at all, and dont even do the folial spraying, so we can eat it w/o washing at all if we wanted to (we do wash though, dirt can get on em)
It’s fucking delcious. She makes great italian food with it, and we’ve done seafood with it too - delicious. We have spicy bush basil, sweet basil, and lime basil right now.

whatever works - I got a hair spray bottle mister thingy fron the chick’s hair and brush aisle at the local supermarket.
I have an aero garden and I absolutely love it!
No work whatsoever, and it is 100% guaranteed, so if some of the herbs aren’t growing correctly, the company will send you some more seeds.
If you are more of a gardener, then go the old fashioned way. But if plants die from a single look of yours, then this will be great!
Here is the website:
I am about to grow some chili peppers indoors.
I should be getting my Bhut Jolokia seeds in a few days
800,000 -1,000,000 scoville.
Just growing them for fun, some people at work are already talking shit how they will eat a dozen.
Most important thing re: florescents is a) the lumens (amount of light energy the bulb puts out). and b) the color temperature of the bulb (whether it’s a yellow/reddish light or a bluer light).
I’ve found that the tube-style fluros really don’t put out enough lumens for a decent indoor grow. compact florescents are decent. but still strictly amateur. For a decent small grow, gotta go with something like a 250w+ HPS, or if you can afford two sets of lights, a metal halide for veg (blue spectrum), and the highest wattage HPS (high pressure sodium- yellowish light) you can find; heat output will likely be the limiting factor for the lights.
Un;less you’re really talking about basil….. in which case… nevermind.
