The Aquarium Thread…(want to start a discus tank)

More than welcome to show off your aquarium here.

I want to start a aquarium tank with discus fish.
Some say the smallest tank for discus fish is 75 gallons.
But All I want is 4 or 5 discus at the most and have them in a 55 gallon with real plants.

Right now I have a 30 gallon tank with tetra fish and live plants. It’s been about 2 years and the fish are great. And plants are still good. I even had to seel some live plants out of my current tank form growth.

Any advice on discus fish, please help. But showing of your tank here or any kind is cool too.
I don’t know loads about discus, but I’ve heard that they’re extremely finicky. They also require LARGE water changes, 75%ish every couple days. You may want to check out this forum

I keep Africans, but I considered a South American tank before I decided against getting a CO2 system for a planted tank. I think that discus would be much happier in a 75 gallon tank, as it’s wider than the 55, but they take up the same length of room. If cost is your dissuader, then look on craigslist, but you have SO MUCH more room to aquascape in a 75 gallon as well.
Here’s my 75 gallon with mbuna

And my 29 gallon cube

I LOVE your tank! especially the dark gravel!

Are the african fish more durable than most???
I went to a professional aquarium shop today. She talked to me about discus. All the pros and cons. She specialize in discus. And she’s gonna help me. I love that dark gravel!

It’s not gravel, it’s 3M Colorquartz in S grade, basically a "made" sand.

Africans require different water parameters than SA fish. My mbuna(75 gallon tank) are very hardy, but the Tanganyikan fish that I have(in my 29 gallon tank) are fairly finicky as far as water parameters.
Thats a good looking tank.

I have been wanting to startup a saltwater tank for sometime but I plan on buying a bigger house next year and am going to wait because I dont want the hassle of having to move fish tanks, especially saltwater.
