Please help! v.can’tcooktosavemylife

0

I want to learn to cook, and I want to learn to love it. Right now, the state of affairs looks like this:

- I can make pasta (premade sauce ), rice and vegetarian stir fry. That is all. I tried meat a few times but it always comes out tough and stringy.
- I currently find cooking boring and a waste of my time, which I’m sure isn’t helping things.

I think the only reason my weight hasn’t soared is because I tend to avoid classic junk food (soda, candy bars, chips, etc) and would rather not eat than expend the effort. Obviously that last bit is some flawed thinking. I’m reasonably bright and creative in other areas, so I’m sure I can learn to cook and love it. I think I need a kick in the right direction.

Calphalon Pots/Pans

0

Are these any good? Anything better in their price range? Gotta stock the new kitchen this weekend and these are looking to be a good option.
Love my set I got from Target, just get some Calphalon cooking utensils to go along with then.
I ended up getting a 12 piece set. Bed Bath & Beyond had a special going, spend over 300 and get a $50.00 gift card, spend over $400.00 and get another calphalon pot. I’m very happy with mine so far. A little disappointed they’re not dishwasher safe but it’s a small price to pay.

Bake element sparked last night

0

I was preheating my oven and there was a sudden bright spark… it actually lit up the entire inside of the oven. I immediately turned it off and looked inside. There was a spot on the element that remained orange even after a few minutes. It seemed to be getting dimmer, so I assumed it just needed to cool. About an hour later, my wife commented that she kept smelling a faint burning odor. I went back over to the oven, opened it up, and sure enough the stupid thing was still putting out heat and the orange spot on the element was still glowing. I unplugged the oven from the outlet and the glow went away.

Kitchen Knives v Wusthof Culinar

0

So anyone here have this set? I am goin to go check them out tomorrow and I’m thinkin about the 10 piece set at williams sonoma for 650 on sale, and with a free sharpener of some sort. I really like the all metal look.

My mom keeps tryin to get me to get the select etc or pro S series based on cost but I want something I enjoy even looking at to be in my kitchen for the next 5-10 years or whatever.

Anyone have an opinion?
do you actually have use for a 650 knife set? dont get me wrong, i have wusthoff knives, but a good chefs knife, a serrated knife and maybe a smaller paring knife will do 95%+ of all the jobs the average cook or even foodie might do at home

Cutting Board?

0

Has anyone used the epicurean cutting boards? i’m looking into buying their cheapest line, but an 11"x15" is around $25, Is it worth it? They seem really nice Otherwise, is theresomething similiar but cheaper
I don’t think that size would be big enough to do anything, despite if the cutting board is worth it or not. Those cutting boards look kinda strange

I like having 2 cutting boards, one polymer and the other wood. The polymer board is for cutting chicken (on one side which I have marked) and anything that’ll mess up the wooden board, like if it might stain it or if it’s too acidic. The wooden one is for everything else I like cutting boards that are about 18"x24" (+/- 3" on each side and I’m still cool with it).

Inground Pool DIY?

0

I was just chillin in my plain back yard today thinking how sweet it would be to have a pool, first thought that came to my mind was a good sized above ground. Only problem with that is that where I live you have to have an inground or no pool. So I started thinking, barrow my dads backhoe for a few weeks, then have my nieghbor help with the concrete work. Seems pretty simple, my neighbor owns his own buisness and he specializes in pouring concrete.

Has anyone ever done there own inground pool and how much did it cost them. I don’t see how it could cost more than 3-4k if you do the digging and the concrete yourself.

Home Reno Crew: Best type of Flooring for a basement?

0

Right now we have high pile carpet in the basement and its starting to look like shit. Plus any moisture in the basement is instantly absorbed by the carpet and it begins to smell musty. We’re planning on tearing the old stuff out and laying some new flooring, but have no idea what would be best for the basement.

Couple main points

1. Hardwood is not an option
2. Nothing over the top expensive
3. Relatively easy to lay

Any Opinions?
ceramic tile. lots of times HD and lowes run specials on 12×12 tiles for under $1 each. buy the thinset and grout, tools, etc. buy a cheap tilesaw that can handle 12×12 tiles

garage flooring

0

so me and the wife decided to upgrade from our condo to a house with a 1 car garage…as a car nut who will probally spend most days in there…this is like a dream come true (I wish it was a triple, but I’ll take the single )…anyways the garage floor is asphalt right now…I know there’s the simple black coating you can do, but I’ve seen my dad use it, and it didn’t hold up too well to my abuse

is there anything heavy duty that can be used to coat it? I’ve seen some of the stuff in other posts for concreat, so something of that nature…but it has to be oil resistant…proof if possible

Bourbon v.EDU

0

I feel it necessary to get some FACTS out there pertaining to the delicious spirit known as Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Some people say they don’t like it but have only drunk shitty ass Jim Beam white label in high school or college! What the mother fuck?!? I’ve even heard some people refer to bourbon as "rot gut!" This hurts me deeply. May the ignorant souls who slander bourbon burn in eternal hell! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion however there are many misconceptions about America’s native spirit. I have decided to take time to re-educate the idiot masses in hopes that whoever reads this at least gains a small understanding of this drink. I don’t expect everyone to love bourbon after reading this, however you will probably be surprised about some of what you learn.
