Grilling Steak V.Needadvise

Ok, So i have 2 boneless top sirloins that together weigh right at 2 1/2 lbs.

Planning on grilling them tonight and wanting some ideas on how you ppl grill steaks and would suggest i try it.

I’ll be grilling with Charcoal, Kingsford Match light.
depends on your taste. Some people like to marinate the shit out of steaks, some people prefer them as simple as you can. I personally use kosher salt + pepper + maybe some garlic (real, not powder). Get them coals as hot as you can (use a chimney starter if you have one) and go to town. Put em on, leave em and dont touch them until you are ready to flip (and flip them only once) get to desired temp (medium rare for me) and youre done.

Post all your spaghetti sauce recipe’s!!

Looking to make some small changes to mine.. seeing what you guys use!

I’m sick of buying canned/bottled stuff, I’d like to try making some.
vine ripened tomatoes, basil, oregano, and white wine is all i usually use if i make my own. not great but its easy
1 Can, Crushed Tomatoes (much nicer than canned sauce)
Dash Lemon Juice
Pinch Sugar
Sea Salt & Fresh Ground Black Pepper to taste
2 Roasted Red Bell Peppers Finely Diced (You can buy them in a can or jar, and they add a nice smokey undernote)

How to cook a steak.

I decided to suck it up and start cooking for myself as all this frozen trader joes food is starting to wear me out. So i got myself some decent knives, a cast iron skillet, and loads of fresh meat and veg. I hear the cast iron is the best way for cooking steak if you don’t have a grill. what are you favorite ways to prepare it on the cast iron.

New York Steak in particular.
I lightly coat them with oil and salt. Let them sit for awhile and warm up some. Don’t want to cook directly out of the fridge.

College Dinner Recipes

Hello everyone! To introduce myself, my name is Jeff and I’m a sophomore student at Virginia Tech (or at least will be come the fall semester). I have been placed into a much larger dorm than I was last year and will have a kitchen in my building. I’m hoping to get a few nights in there to make some dinner for myself/friends (it’s a co-ed dorm… i need something to put me infront of all the other guys ^.^).

So i was wondering if any of you guys have some really basic/simple recipes that I can use in college besides Ramen or Cup-o-Soup microwavables. I think it would be fun to experiment with some new food… especially if I can make it.

Please help! v.can’tcooktosavemylife

I want to learn to cook, and I want to learn to love it. Right now, the state of affairs looks like this:

– I can make pasta (premade sauce ), rice and vegetarian stir fry. That is all. I tried meat a few times but it always comes out tough and stringy.
– I currently find cooking boring and a waste of my time, which I’m sure isn’t helping things.

I think the only reason my weight hasn’t soared is because I tend to avoid classic junk food (soda, candy bars, chips, etc) and would rather not eat than expend the effort. Obviously that last bit is some flawed thinking. I’m reasonably bright and creative in other areas, so I’m sure I can learn to cook and love it. I think I need a kick in the right direction.

i wanna bake my salmon inside half of a pineapple

Never heard of that before…

but, put it in half of a pineapple, put in oven, and see how it goes.

Report back
I cut open a pineapple and put the salmon inside the crevice – cutting some chunks to place on top, bottom and in all the little nooks- then covered in tupolo honey. We’ll see how it goes.

Looking for a good pico recipie

I’ve never made pico before but I want to start, any ideas?
jalapenos, cilantro, tomatoes, onions. all diced and cured in lime juice. play with the portions to your taste.

+ salt and pepper and that’s what i use to make mine
dont forget the cilantro, ppl easily forget the cilantro when making pico at home

Cheap and easy way to cook a chicken breast?

I didn’t eat meat for nearly 15 years. Never been much of a cook. But I’m trying to start actually cooking things that don’t go from a box to a microwave.

I’m sure actually cooking the thing isn’t complicated, but I have no idea what to put on it… how long to cook it, etc.
get the george foreman grill. Best grill ever for non-cooks.

Just grill for a few minutes and cut into it to see if its done in the middle.
I guess I’m looking more for how to flavor it.

Need help: cooking with yogurt

My wife has been preparing me curry dishes. It’s pretty simple. Cook up some boneless skinless chicken breasts, drop in a half can of peas and some thinly sliced potatoes. Then you add in yogurt, the curry spices, and cayenne pepper.

NORMALLY everything works fine. Everything blends together in the yogurt and it comes out delicious.

About 30% of the time, however, the yogurt just breaks apart. You get this watery liquid with tiny white blobs floating in it. It doesn’t taste good at all and we wind up tossing it out.
