Lately I have been using the recipe index on bhg.com. They just re-desinged the site so it is definitely top notch. I feel like there are probably a lot resources online for recipes. Does anyone have any favorite sites or recommendation?
reciperesource.com
google.com- just put in what you have on hand
I’ll check out reciperesource.com. Actually I disagree with you on the google.com part because a lot of time I’m not sure what I’m going to prepare for dinner. If I go to a specific cooking community like bhg I can look at what they have and it helps me come up with ideas. Most of the time I follow exactly what the recipe says. Even something as simple as this these caramelized carrots I would have never thought this up

I’m on a no-chew diet for 6 weeks… ideas?
I’ve got pudding, protein shake things, various pastas I can down without chewing..
Also, does anyone know a recipe for the easy-mac cheese? I’m assuming it’s got some powdered milk or something in it. I can’t eat the macaroni noodles because they will get caught in my braces, but I don’t want to buy easy mac just to toss the noodles.
Blender for the win.
I had lockjaw a few years ago and after getting the shots from the doctor and getting my jaw open, it hurt like fuck for a week or so. We blended food and it was easy to eat.

I decided to suck it up and start cooking for myself as all this frozen trader joes food is starting to wear me out. So i got myself some decent knives, a cast iron skillet, and loads of fresh meat and veg. I hear the cast iron is the best way for cooking steak if you don’t have a grill. what are you favorite ways to prepare it on the cast iron.
New York Steak in particular.
I lightly coat them with oil and salt. Let them sit for awhile and warm up some. Don’t want to cook directly out of the fridge.

Hello everyone! To introduce myself, my name is Jeff and I’m a sophomore student at Virginia Tech (or at least will be come the fall semester). I have been placed into a much larger dorm than I was last year and will have a kitchen in my building. I’m hoping to get a few nights in there to make some dinner for myself/friends (it’s a co-ed dorm… i need something to put me infront of all the other guys ^.^).
So i was wondering if any of you guys have some really basic/simple recipes that I can use in college besides Ramen or Cup-o-Soup microwavables. I think it would be fun to experiment with some new food… especially if I can make it.

I want to learn to cook, and I want to learn to love it. Right now, the state of affairs looks like this:
- I can make pasta (premade sauce ), rice and vegetarian stir fry. That is all. I tried meat a few times but it always comes out tough and stringy.
- I currently find cooking boring and a waste of my time, which I’m sure isn’t helping things.
I think the only reason my weight hasn’t soared is because I tend to avoid classic junk food (soda, candy bars, chips, etc) and would rather not eat than expend the effort. Obviously that last bit is some flawed thinking. I’m reasonably bright and creative in other areas, so I’m sure I can learn to cook and love it. I think I need a kick in the right direction.

So anyone here have this set? I am goin to go check them out tomorrow and I’m thinkin about the 10 piece set at williams sonoma for 650 on sale, and with a free sharpener of some sort. I really like the all metal look.
My mom keeps tryin to get me to get the select etc or pro S series based on cost but I want something I enjoy even looking at to be in my kitchen for the next 5-10 years or whatever.
Anyone have an opinion?
do you actually have use for a 650 knife set? dont get me wrong, i have wusthoff knives, but a good chefs knife, a serrated knife and maybe a smaller paring knife will do 95%+ of all the jobs the average cook or even foodie might do at home

I plan on having an Open House party in the coming months. Its going to be a themed party, TV Land Luau! And I’m having trouble decideing on food. It needs to be simple buffet style, something thats not going to keep me in the kitchen/at the grill the entire duration of the party. I plan on having 25+ guests, anyone have any suggestions? I’ve got the decorations covered, just need food ideas.
Thanks
Gin
Grilled food is easy it won’t dirty up the kitchen and it’s good. Grill some pineapple maybe some chicken or burgers w/ your favorite sauce. Chop and serve on toothpics like mini kabobs.

Are there a lot of Good Eats fans on OT? I keep stumbling on people repeating Alton Brown in various cooking threads. I’m a huge fan because I find it is the only show that teaches you how to cook instead of just giving you a recipe.
What things have you picked up from the show? I’ve certainly become a fan of cast iron cookware after watching the show. I’ve made some awesome fried hamburgers which is a savior since my condo complex doesn’t allow us to have grills or open flames on our balconies.

Polock food – well, czech/eastern european.
My mom kicked it a few years ago and one of the things I inherited is a great box of recipes. If anyone likes them, I have breads and other stuff too. Much is ethnic, some is cookies and stuff, and some is completely plain – such as breaded pork chops.
I have to try everything to make sure the recipes are ok, but if anyone is pining away for something specific, I might have something of use. (like soft pretzels.)
Anyhow – halupki.

Whats the best meal, which is a balanced one with all the required nutritional stuffs, which is cheap and which u can eat on a daily basis. Oh and which can last for 1 week.
Am in uni and am trying to save on money on eating – instead of eating mc dos everyday(or in any other fast food). I also suck at cooking.
Cheers.
Learning to cook is perhaps the most important skill anyone can learn. Don’t be afraid of it. The more you do it the better at it you will get. Here are a couple of suggestions and some general advice.
