Meanwhile the author is up to his usual business…"Against The Day"

From the Barnes and Noble website

From the Publisher

Spanning the period between the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893 and the years just after World War I, this novel moves from the labor troubles in Colorado to turn-of-the-century New York, to London and Gottingen, Venice and Vienna, the Balkans, Central Asia, Siberia at the time of the mysterious Tunguska Event, Mexico during the Revolution, postwar Paris, silent-era Hollywood, and one or two places not strictly speaking on the map at all.

**** Official OT Summer Book Club 2007 Request List ****

So heres how we’re gonna do this.

Last time we had everyone who was interested reccomend a book and then the mod drew from a hat to see which one it was that we were going to read. I think this time I want to keep it a bit more democratic so I am going to draw three random ones and then we’ll vote for a day on what we are going to read and then based on the length of the book we will decide on how long / how to break it up for discussion.

Please recommend the book in Title – Author format. thanks.

Help me find a book, OT

I read it in fifth grade. I want to say the author’s name is Peck (but it wasn’t on a list of richard peck’s books). The protagonist is Lonnie, who lives near a swap or something with his father. He befriends a crazy man who lives out there. I remember that he brought the man a jar of coffee, and the man ripped out one of his rotten molars. Can’t remember much more. Help?

Book Reviews and Recommendations

I figured that I would start writing brief summaries/reviews on some of the books that I read in order that other people may find literature that interests them. I am not that well read, but I have been reading significant amounts as of late. Try and spare me criticism, especially since taste is obviously a personal matter. I will try and contribute reviews of books as I read them and go back to books I have already read, but it is all dependent upon time. Some will likely be longer than others. Feel free to contribute any thoughts on books or recommendations of books for me to read.

What Are You Reading??? v.New

I just finished The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway
I just picked up for whom the bell tolls
I also wanted to get Haunted by that fight club guy
The Sun Also Rises was great.

Just finished Haunted. I only found it mediocore. Maybe I was expecting too much. Some of the short stories were really well done, but the overall connecting story did nothing for me.

Rereading Huxley’s Brave New World at the moment.
Boy’s Life by Robert R. McCammon
