Sound proof interior door? Anyone have one/know anything about where to get it?
0I’m looking for a solid core interior door which doesn’t transmit sound easily. Home Depot is full of clowns. JELD-WEN makes some kind of ProCore quiet door which is sold through Home Depot but Home Depot idiots told me they don’t carry this door although they have posters for it on the wall.
Anyways,
Anyone know of such doors?
Home depot does/should carry them. But you’re probably best off to go to a trim and door place. Just ask for a solid core/fire rated safe and sound door.
You can get them in 6 panel, like the normal interior doors that depot has, and solid slab, which are just smooth on the outside.
Make sure use 3 hinges as these things weight a good 100lbs. And don’t get pissed off and punch one lol.

trim and door place? not sure what you mean
Any specific type which would be better than others? Also, what kind of price am I looking at?
Home Depot is supposed to have a door which is 24" by 8′ which is $119 framed. the slab is only like 50 bux.

Look in the yellow pages under "Doors, Frames, & Accessories" call some of those places.
That sounds a little cheap for a solid core door, but it could very well be right. Maybe try talking to someone else at depot? See if you have better luck
As long as they’re solid core, one isn’t going to be much better then the others, you can get different thicknesses though which will help the sound transfer a bit. Mostly it’s just going to change the fire rating (burn time), which you’re not really concerned with.

most stuff home depot carries is shit, and most of the brands they sell are shit, low end diy home owner stuff, I would spend a little extra money and get something good. At $120 that door cannot be well made and it is about as cheap as it gets.
I went ahead and bought a solid core pine door yesterday for 130 bux at home depot. i brought it home and lined it up with the door opening and it wasnt very soundproof
granted there were still gaps evrywhere, it still was pretty shitty.
im returning it tonight or tomorrow and will probably get the thickest hollow core flat door i can find, open it up and fill it with insulation, then slap on a layer of some sound proofing stick on mat and see how that comes out.. i was reading about this being done by people building home theaters and studios and such.
only other option is to get an exterior door and install it inside.

If you want sound proofing, you want to get a Safe And Sound door. They’re are Fire and Sound rated. And like I said, they weigh around 100lbs and up depending on the width of the door.
Just a regular solid wood door (pine or whatever) is going to be like putting pink insulation in your ceiling. It will work to some extent, but it’s not going to be nearly as effective as a product (roxul safe and sound insulation) that is designed to stop noise.
Spend the extra money and get the right products. DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. That way you’re not spending even more money to do it again 6 months from now when the sound is still pissing you off.

As I said, home depot is shit in general, and pine is an even shittier choice its so open grained.. so why are you sound proofing it? Murdering people at night time and chopping them up in your kitchen ?
It’s a basement level being made into a lounge/chill area with a very loud home theater.

Yeah, I saw the Safe and Sound doors they carry at HD and Lowes. They are special order doors and run about $130 or so for the 24" wide one that I need. The problem is you have to wait 3-6 weeks apparently I was told a solid core wood door would be similar in sound insulation.
call a company that strictly handles doors/trim etc they should be able to get you one the next day, if not the same day. And a solid wood door might be similar, if it’s solid oak or something other than pine.
thanks… im returning that pine door tonight and will weigh my options honestly looking into an exterior door and maybe some additional shit. i read about some sound proof curtain, might get that to go with the door. i know that a metal exterior door would work but i have not been able to find ones which are only 24 inches wide.
Keep in mind that a metal door, uncovered, will reflect sound in that room. If that room is the theater room, you don’t want that. You want less reflection along straight walls, and to break it up a little. Otherwise, you get standing waves and resonant frequencies that cause certain frequencies to be louder than others. This is particularly applicable since you said that the theater will be loud.
thanks.. yeah i have been to 6 different stores that specialize in windows and doors and everyone said i wont find a fully soundproof door.. settled on a safe and sound door built by reliabilt.. claims to reduce noise by up to 50%. there are specialty doors that can be ordered but cost an assload and probably wont work too well with my setup and are too wide. well see how it works out
All solid core safe and sound doors i’ve ever bought (go through a place called London Trim and Door) were custom made to whatever size I wanted, and cost 130-180 for just the slab
Come down to MD and I have a solid core door you can have. Was used in a SCIF (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility) at a Gov’t building. Damn near threw my back out lifting the fuckin thing.
