Removing paint from brick? Need advice

I just moved into a new apartment that has a fair amount of exposed brick. The only problem is it’s painted over in white. Would the best way to go about it be paint thinner and a chipper? How messy/long would this process be?

I have no clue I’ve never had to remove paint before.

.

or muriatic acid but thats messy/dangerous shit to use indoors.

so…?

do you own said apartment?

no but the rules are pretty lax on this kind of thing and i’ll more than likely be here for the next few years. if i were here for just a year i wouldn’t bother with any painting/removing paint. it’s a big loft so i thought the brick would add a nice touch.
your time + materials = ?

is it worth it?

well… i was wondering about the time and materials. I have no idea. But I figured if i do it I should do it now while it’s basically empty.
My first house had a brick section of the exterior that idiots had painted. I tried chemical removal on a small section and it made a mess. I did not try any of the Peel-Away products. I ended up getting pissed off, renting a towable compressor and sandblast outfit, blasting all the crap off the brick, and then repointing the mortar joints. Probably not a doable indoor project.
i never got why people spend money to improve an apartment they don’t own

i thought it was going to be a lot simpler than it actually is. i thought some paint thinner, a chipper, and a weekends worth of work would have done the trick. to me it’s the same as getting something decorative.

Cuz its still their home even if they dont own it. If they plan on living there for a long time why not enjoy it.
if you have the money and mindset to improve an apartment then why not just buy a condo and get a mortgage? I never understood renting to be anything but throwing your money away..

You’re about to deface property you don’t even own? This idea just went from bad to worse.

Anyway, removing paint from brick is a hellish job because anything that liquefies the paint will let it soak into the brick more. Your best bet is a sandblaster, but good luck getting that one past the doorman.
