Refrigerator Problem :( v. Whirlpool
Basically there’s still cool air in there but it’s definitely not as cool as it should be, everything is melted already. The ice box won’t make ice but the refrigerator still dispenses water fine. The bottom of the refrigerator has some cool air coming out of it, I think it used to be warm air before it broke.
Does anyone know what I can do to check what’s wrong with it before I go ask a repair man to check it out for 100$
See if your auto defrost cycle timer is hung up. Dispensing water is just a solenoid on the inlet water line and has NADA to do with refrigeration or defrost cycles. Are the condensing coils clean? Is the condenser fan running?
Sometimes, if you do not clean the coils that are pulling heat away from the condensor (they are located on the bottom of the fridge, underneath it sometimes) dust will build up and the fridge will pull too much amperage while trying to cool.
This will cause the relay/fuse to short out, as a protection feature.
Just call up Sears.
Compressor fan might be dying causing the compressor to shut down too frequently.
Fridge and Freezer cooling less, or just the fridge?
If just the fridge, empty the freezer, and see if there is a way to pull off the inside back panel to view the coils. If the coils are frozen over, then you have a defroster problem. The frozen coils prevent cool airflow from the freezer to the fridge. Possible problems are
1) defrost control (this could be a mechanical timer, or an electronic control). My Maytag had the electronic control board go bad – ~$50 15 minute fix.
2) Defrost heater element
3) defrost thermostat
