Help me paint my living room! What color scheme would go with my furniture?
(Copy and paste from another thread)
I don’t have any day time pictures but I just took these….that lazyboy is another hand-me-down going in the garage sale (we just got engaged and bought this place fyi)
I was thinking of painting the baseboards white and the walls a light tan? Maybe painting the walls around the TV tan and the wall behind the couch a sage green?
My problem with painting the trim is that the rails for the stairs to the front door are the same color so it will look weird if I don’t paint them too
What do you guys think?
note the obnoxious ass orange kitchen we just did from the other thread
I agree that the foyer area needs to match the living room, since there is no real separation or definition between the two.
Lots of colors would match your furniture. It’s all neutral colors. A light khaki color on the walls would work, so long as it didn’t class with the couch cushions. A white in the tan family would be a good accent color for trim. Remember to do something with the switchplates and faceplates on outlets. Buy new throw pillows that match whatever color scheme you use.
A darker red would also work, if you wanted the space to seem darker and more cozy, with an off-white trim to counterbalance it. I would avoid anything bright with that furniture.
I wouldn’t, unless you really don’t like the carpet, or it’s a strange color that doesn’t go with whatever scheme you pick. It looks like a decent berber-type carpet. If the carpet or pad is not worn out, I wouldn’t replace it. Hardwoods are nice, but in a living room especially, carpet adds a feeling of warmth. You can get really badass engineered floors, though, that are relatively easy to install, and some out there are VERY scratch resistant. This is an issue since you have a dog. However, hardwoods are easier to clean than carpet, and wear much better over the long haul. They are also easier to install without professional help, and are usually more expensive.
We’re looking into doing hardwood sometime in the future.
I actually hate our carpet but its brand new so I have a hard time justifying ripping it out already
To be honest, you could just install an engineered floor OVER the carpet.
a rich taupe with white trim
and get some art, either striking black and whites, or some vivid colours.
