My a/c unit is kinda humming but the fan blades aren’t spinning. Anyone ever experience this before? I’m leaning towards it being the fan motor. I gotta call to get someone out but i’d like to research this as much as possible first.
Danke.
is this a window unit? if so its probably cheaper to get a new one than pay someone to repair the old one
The humming is the compressor pump. If the fan isn’t spinning, see if it starts spinning if you flick the blades. If it does, just keep the fan set to ON at the thermostat until you can get it fixed, otherwise you’ll need to call the HVAC monkeys in the morning.

After reading the beginner’s section of Charlie Papazian’s The Complete Joy of Homebrewing, 3rd Edition, and other information on the Internet, I’ve compiled a list of everything I think I’ll need to start homebrewing.

I’m looking at houses in my area and $500k doesn’t mean much anymore. I remember about 10 or 15 years ago I knew a guy in high school whose parents built a $500k house and it was a mansion with granite floors throughout and had big iron gates out front. Back then I was floored that their house cost a half of a million dollars. Now, I’m looking at a > 100 years old house with 3 bedrooms and 1.5 baths for $450k as an entry level house for a growing family.
That sucks… $500k here will get you a high end 4500 sq ft house

This is my 4th of july weekend project. I have not every put down solid flooring flooring before. Any tips to make this easier? It is 5 inch wide, 3/4 inch thick and I will be using a pneumatic stapler with 2 inch staples
-take your time.
-leave ~1/8th gap around the walls for expansion
-remove the baseboard, don’t just go against it and use quarter round
-wear knee pads
-run the boards along the LENGTH of the room, if you go the opposite way it will make the room look stubby.

I’ve got some concrete lawn furniture that is in desperate need of a repaint. It still has some old paint on it and I’m just wondering what the process is.
I would powerwash it to clean as much old paint and dirt off as possible before repainting.

going to be buying a welder and other power tools for my garage soon. I was curious as to the approximate cost of getting a 220v installed. I’ll probably have 2-3 diff 220v outlets installed just to be on the safe side.
What is a very general price range that I’m looking at for just one outlet? $300ish? $500ish? more? Anyone that can help, I’d appreciate it!
How far and how hard to get to is your circuit breaker box from the spot you want the outlet?
Also, does your box have at least one double-wide spot free for a 220v breaker?

Any talk radio recommendations? I’m looking for high caliber talk radio, I am not interested in shows where people call in to voice their opinions. I’m mostly into in depth discussions about spirituality, politics, health, and relationships (but not into the “advice” style shows). An example of all the above is a podcast I’m really into called . Any suggestions appreciated!

So apparently the hot thing in the local neighborhoods is stealing the freon out of A/C units (townhomes with low fences, easy targets). they sent out an email saying that for $80 (parts + labor) someone could come install locks on the A/C units to keep the freon from being stolen.
has anyone had experience with these locks? how much do they cost? if its a decent amount less i’d like to do it myself and possibly go around doing it for everyone that wants it for just a few bucks.
They’re not stealing the freon. They’re stealing the copper and getting cash for it as scrap. Big cash. There’s a lot of copper tubing in an AC compressor.

FYI,
if You have or know someone who uses UA DURR home warranty company let them know to get a home warranty elsewhere since UA durr has dropped off the face of the planet and went bankrupt lol.
on top of that, i have done some easier carpentry work around the house, i can install new windows doors hang drywall lay tile etc, but have never done any plumbing, just had a drain pipe from my garage burst in a crawl space, replacing a pipe seems like it would be simple enough, am i wrong or are there any hidden things i need to know about?
