Bathroom heater bulb

0

So my girlfriend/future fiancee moved into my house, and she wanted a bathroom heater like the one she had in her apt. It was just a plain, single bulb ceiling mounted heater, but it warmed the entire bathroom. I went out and bought one, installed it, but it doesn’t heat unless you are directly under it. It is a infrared bulb, but I can’t seem to find anything else out there. I don’t know what type of bulb they had in that apt., but it definitely warmed the entire bathroom up, and the two rooms are pretty close to the same size. Is there a different type of bulb I can buy that will warm the room?

Need recommend humorous "modern classic" books

0

I know this section probably gets a lot of book recommendation requests. Well here is another one.

Looking for good fiction or prose that have a heavy element of humor in it while retaining an "important" feel, not as colloquial as Chuck Cloisterman or David Sedaris (although I enjoyed those as well). Preferably something something 1920 or later.

Here are some I enjoyed that fit the description, so similar stuff would be very nice: Catch-22, Angela’s Ashes, Confederacy of Dunces, On The Road, Up In The Old Hotel, Catcher In The Rye, Vonnegut’s books.

Any Rum Lovers?

0

No matter how many Bourbons, Scotches or other liquors I try, I always go back to rum. My current favorites are Sailor Jerry for spiced rum, Mount Gay or Appleton for dark rum (Mount Gay Eclipse Silver for light rum) and Pyrat for the times when straight dark rum or spiced rum doesn’t fit the bill. Currently enjoying a glass of Mount Gay Sugar Cane "Brandy" neat.

I do enjoy rum quite a bit. Captain Morgan’s Private Stock is great.

DIY range repair?

0

Our LG electric range is on the fritz, it’s 2-3 years old, and out of it’s 1-year warranty. It randomly shuts off, and eventually comes back on (not any heating elements), it’s just like the power is completely cut to the unit, then restored. It doesn’t matter if we’re using it at the time or not. I displays "PF" after it comes back on, indicating power failure (I’ve seen the same thing when our house power goes out). Checked the plug, checked the breaker, no issues there.

Vertical blind

0

In my new place I have a sliding door, made up of three frames of glass. The center slides and the outer frames stays put.

There are two options with vertical blinds – I can do 2/3 and 1/3. 2/3 covering the actual sliding door itself and opens in the same direction as the sliding door. Advantage is that I only have to move 1 blind to get out.

Or I can do 1/2 and 1/2. Of-course, I would have to move 2 blinds, each in opposite direction to get out.

Looking for some feedback here, is there a best practice that applies to my case?

Ginger Beer Recipe

0

Hey I was wondering how many of you have actually tried brewing a Ginger Beer?

I just finished one as follows:
1 1/2 lb of Ginger *peeled and sliced*
1 tspn Cream tartar
5 cloves
1 lb of sugar
total 3 gallon on water

Put 1 gallon of water in a large stock pot, bring to a rolling boil. Put sugar and Tartar and cloves into the boil. Cut back heat to half of that, to a Simmer and put all of the Ginger into the pot. Cover and let simmer for 20 minutes, Cut off heat and let Steep for 1 hour.

Finishing a basment: Contracting vs. doing it yourself.

0

don’t have a basement, but I’ve done a few at work before.

use some spray paint to mark out where you want your walls and sleep on it a few days to make sure that’s where you want everything and the room sizes are good. A whole lot easier to change it before you start framing.

2" rigid foam glued to the walls, with all seams taped, then stick framing (with batt insulation if you want it nice and toasty down there).

if you have the head room, 1.5" rigid foam on the floor, with all seams taped, then 1/2 ply wood over top of that will give you a nice stable insulated floor.

Stove with a grill?

0

I’ve seen stoves with a middle grill portion on FoodTV. The middle portion is just like a gas grill and they cooked meet directly on it.

Do stoves with grills exist for home use? Or does that just exist in FoodTV land since they’re on a set? I’m shopping for a stove/oven and it would rock if I could get one.
My girlfriend in college had one. It was really nice but can’t remember what brand it was. I’ll have to look into it. The owners of the house she rented renovated the house and put it in but I imagine it was somewhat pricey.
