anyone have experience v.battery powered trimmer

anyone use one of these yet?

this is a worx gt, 18v rechargeable trimmer/edger. there are other variations of the same thing by black and decker and american gardener. yes it was from an infomercial, but they also won a popular mechanics best buy award so……….
100% shit. unless you want to cut for 10 minutes, charge for an hour, cut for 10 minutes, charge for an hour, etc, etc. i wouldnt bother. go for a gas trimmer, way less bullshit.
I guess it depends on how much you have to trim and what you will be trimming. I have a big yard with lots of brush so I got a bigass Husqvarna that I can swap on a brush blade in place of the trimmer line if I need to.

For a townhouse or something small I bet the battery one would work fine.

pretty heavy? thats what im concerned about. the odor and weight with a gas trimmer. the limit of an electric trimmer.

It is heavier but with the shoulder strap set right all you do is swipe it from side to side so it’s not bad. The smell from the gas is minimal and I hardly even notice it.

im gonna check one out, even though its about 5-6 times and electric
I have the B&D 18-volt Grasshog trimmer. Love it!

Typical .26 acre lot, not a corner lot. I can edge and trim everything with one battery unless I skip the edging for a couple of weeks and it’s real thick. I’m pretty on top of the landscaping so it’s usually not an issue.

It’s got enough power for what I need it to do. You won’t be cutting down any saplings with it though. The automatic string feed works well and the head swivels for edging or trimming.

I’m pretty much a B&D battery whore as I also have the 24-volt lawn mower, 18-volt blower, and 18-volt Firestorm drill.

wow, going battery powered on a mower and a blower. how are they?

If you don’t ask either of them to do what they can’t it’s fine.

The "blower" isn’t actually called a blower by B&D, it’s called a "hard surface broom". I use it to blow grass clippings off the driveway, sidewalk, patio, mulch, etc. after I mow. It cannot blow leaves well in grass, ain’t powerful enough.

The mower is awesome, super quiet, no gas, oil, filters, etc.. Again, you need to be realistic with it. It can’t cut 6" grass down to 2.5" in one shot, it can’t cut wet grass very well, and it ain’t self-propelled either. If you’re a lazy ass who only cuts once every 2 weeks this is not a good choice for you.

I mow frequently, cut high and would say I have one of the better lawns in my neighborhood so it works for me.

Sometimes I need help pushing it cause I get tired.

so youre sure that a battery powered trimmer would do the job?

im in then, ill do a review of it when i get one. which wont be for a while yet

I’m only talking about the B&D one though. I have zero knowledge of that Worx one.

ive read numerous good reports about them, and like i stated before they won a popular mechanics best buy award. even though the bnd one is less expensive, the worx model seems to do a lot of things for the cost.

Some more opinions for you.

I think you’ll be fine with either one if you’re just doing light duty stuff on a smaller property.

I wish more people in my neighborhood went with electric or battery gear. The gas stuff is overkill for such small lots and are noisy as hell.

Good luck with whatever one you get.

thanks for another great place to look at reviews. i guess im going to lowes first to test ride some of the trimmers before i decide

careful riding the trimmers, you’ll cut your sack off!

well i went ahead and bought a worx gt. 125 otd with a second battery and the the charger/trimmer wall mount. i must say im pleasantly suprised by the oomph that this thing has. it has more than enough to do anything ive asked of it, yet it isnt overpowering to the point where if im not paying attention, im picking up dirt. pretty lightweight, i wouldnt recommend carrying it for more than 20-30 minutes at a time though. and the adjustable edger thing is great. battery life is still an unknown as ive only had one chance to use it. batteries charged in under an hour each.
noise is about the same as an electric trimmer. auto line feed was nice. easily converts and adjusts to different lengths and angles.

definitely recommended to anyone who is looking to buy a string trimmer or looking to get out of the noisy/loud/smelly gas trimmer territory
oh yeah the free line for life thing will come in handy too, even though i believe its 10 bucks to ship a batch of 7-9 reels. ill update to tell how long a reel lasts
black and decker makes really cheap batteries.. so I wouldn’t buy it. The trimmer itself may not be that bad but battery life will be. I know I have a b&d cordless drill and a dewalt 18v xrp and my dewalt will last probably 4 times as long as the black and decker. As far as drills are concerned they are comparatively similar, but the batteries in say something like a dewalt drill are unmatched. I would just get a gas trimmer.
