No matter how many Bourbons, Scotches or other liquors I try, I always go back to rum. My current favorites are Sailor Jerry for spiced rum, Mount Gay or Appleton for dark rum (Mount Gay Eclipse Silver for light rum) and Pyrat for the times when straight dark rum or spiced rum doesn’t fit the bill. Currently enjoying a glass of Mount Gay Sugar Cane "Brandy" neat.

I do enjoy rum quite a bit. Captain Morgan’s Private Stock is great.

big time! im pissed though i used to drink pyrat superior blanco and i loved it tasted expensive but was around the price of a bottle of captian but was soooo freaking smooth

big black dick rum from the cayman islands is great. they have a light and dark version. more of a vanilla and sugary rum, but damn it’s tasty, and has a name that’s somewhat interesting.

For normal every day drinking i usually stick with captain MO, appleton estate or something off the middle shelf.

generally stick to captain morgan. Sailor Jerry is ok but i hate Admiral Nelson.

a year or two back i stopped at a liquor store on a road trip and picked up a bottle of Rogue spirits – Hazelnut spiced rum(same brewer that makes Rogue beers in the 22oz bomber bottles). I had never heard of it and it was $35. One drink, didn’t like it and a hang over the next day . I can down Captain all night long and not get a hang over.

Spiced rums are tasty mixed with coke and whatnot, but I really find white rums to be interesting and more useful in tropical drinks like daquiris.

Not a fan of white rums. Maybe I just havent had any good ones.

I dont mix spiced rum with Coke anymore. I had it with cream soda a few years back and havent gone back to coke since. cream soda and rum is my drink of choice.

Are you saying that they are better or worse than Capt. Morgan and Sailor Jerry?

Cruzan makes the best pineapple rum I’ve ever had. Served Ice cold right out of the freezer… I’m in heaven.

Has anyone tried making a flavored rum of their own? I’m looking for infusion recipes.

El dorado 15 year rum is amazing. Its from guyana, they also make a 12 year which is pretty good the 21year which is very non rum like and super smooth and a 25year rum.

I tend to experiment with drinks when I get a bit bored, last night I was looking for something to compliment a tequila citrus shrimp I made, so I came up with this cocktail

2oz Pyrat Rum
.5oz Gran Mariner
.5oz Lime Juice
2oz Tonic Water

Garnish with lime

Had a great flavor and complimented the meal very well.

gosling anyone? mmm rum is my favorite and i could drink it like water any day.

been hooked on goslings black seal since i visited Bermuda 9 years ago.

Mount Gay, Havana Club, 10 Cane all miles above the spiced swill that Captain, Sailor, and the Admiral try to pass off as rum.

Need to try some Gosling’s now.

I love rum, and El Dorado 15 is probably my favorite. Other faves include Ron Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva( or any of the Diplomatico line), Cockspur 12 year, Ron Pampero Anniversario, Ron Del Barrilito 3-star, Zaya (the old version from Guatemala), Barbancourt, Ron Matusalem, Ron Zacapa Centenario.
Heh… the list is always growing, but I usually have those all on hand.
For mixing I like the Cruzan light and dark rums, or Mount Gay silver. If I’m using spiced or flavored rum I prefer to make my own.

Significantly better

Cruzan makes some of the best rum IMO. I love their Estate Single Barrel.
