Must haves for any kitchen (ie, long lasting?)

0

What are the must have ingredients and equipment any moderately-geared kitchen should have? Cooking for yourself, family, and occasional guests. I’m asking about spices and such, things that you buy once and don’t have to replace until you run out. Like salt, pepper, paprika etc.

Moved into my apartment and after trying some of the recipes here, it feels like i’m always missing something basic
One of everything McCormick sells, except the premixed spice blends.
equipment:
*colander (spaghetti strainer)

Where to begin to get a book published?

0

So I decided to write a rhyming book about my dog just for shits n giggles.. Took pictures of the pup and photoshopped them so it looks watercolored or something… each page is just one line with a picture going with that sentence. I told my friends about it and let them read it and they asked if I was gonna get it published… figured why not. I’m gonna be a teacher and I already made a unit plan to go with this book and some other ideas I could use to teach using this book. So I figured it’s worth a shot to try.

Does one dried bean taste better than any other?

0

I am a huge consumer of dried beans…

I make soups, casseroles, baked and refried recipes… but say for texture… does one common bean really taste any better than another?

I use navy, northern, or black-eyed interchangeably… does anyone detect a difference?
They definitely taste different once they’re reconstituted. I like Northern beans in soups, black-eyed peas with pork, and black + pinto with anything resembling Mexican food.

Probably Northern beans are the least grainy when not fully rehydrated.

Cat toys.

0

I’m sure anybody who has a cat knows that they can be ridiculously picky about the toys they like — buy them a $5 toy from PetSmart and they play with the plastic wrapper, and so on. I’ve found one toy, though, that has never failed to keep my kitties amused, and you can make it yourself.

Take two pre-made gift bows, peel off the wax paper covering the sticky pads, and stick them together. Crinkle it a little bit to get your cat’s attention, then chuck it down the hall. My cats go absolutely fucking berserk over these things, and they cost me maybe 25c apiece. Strangely, the pre-made crinkly balls don’t do a thing for them; I think it’s because the gift bows I use have loops of material, which gives them something to hook a claw into and send it flying in unpredictable directions.

Cooking crew: how do you keep a chocolate cookie coating from melting on your fingers

0

I’ve got an awesome thin mint recipe and have made two batches of them, making a couple modifications to the recipe. One problem I still haven’t figured out is the chocolate coating. The recipe calls for bittersweet chocolate melted with a tiny amount of vegetable oil. The cookies are then dipped and the chocolate allowed to harden. Even if you serve the cookies refrigerated, chocolate gets all over your fingers. Anyone have any ideas on how to raise the melting point of the coating?

Any HVAC people? I have a question about a quote I just got.

0

Well our AC has not been blowing very well. Went into the attic and found out that the Plenum was not connected to the Evap Coil. Looks like it broke loose. The plenum was made duct board.
Had a guy come and look at it and he said we need to replace the evap coil and have a new metal plenum installed. He said the Evap Coil main drain pan has rusted and it is going into the secondary one.

He quoted us $2800.

I guess my main question is this a good price?
We have a 3ton unit and I have no idea how old it is.

Vodka infusions

0

I’ve been running a moonshine still and making vodka at home for a couple years now. I used to run a batch every other week, and the output was enough for 11 fifths of pretty good vodka that I turned into panty-melting infusions. I don’t even know how many recipes I have in my head. Once every couple months I’ll make a batch now and I spend money on good ingredients with a nice product in mind.

Everybody remembers my peppermint schnapps from last Christmas and the Thanksgiving special edition coffee-spiker I made this year. Good stuff.

What a difference v.Siding/Front Door

0

After doing interior stuff for the last year and a half, this year is the exterior/landscaping. Just got done having all new siding and a new front door put in. Paid for, no way in hell I could do it myself. House is a duplex btw.

Before:

After

I’m assuming you own the entire duplex? If not how did you work out the siding issue with other owner? Looks very nice and clean now. Front door looks 100% better too.

was wondering that aswell. Looks great!
