Help me fixup my future "Man Room"

Update 5/28 – scroll down for pics

This room is going to be dedicated as a man room. Basically it’s a room where I can escape from "teh wife" and play some video games/use the computer. I’m also going to be setting up a 5.1 surround sound for playing music off my computer

It currently has wood paneling covering the bottom half of the wall and is painted YELLOW up top

I want to tear it out and just paint it one solid color, but some people are telling me if I select another color up top that it will look better.

under the sink water filtration systems

Anyone have one they would recommend? Also I have a water softener does this mean I would have to replace filters more often?
I’ve had an American Plumber R/O system for almost 10 years now. I liked mine so much, I bought one for my parents about 6 years ago… they love theirs too. I also have mine hooked up to the refrigerator, so all of my ice is made from purified water… you’ve never seen ice cubes so crystal clear.
The water from my system tastes so fresh and clean, most bottled waters taste like a fishtank by comparison. I’m a HUGE water drinker… I don’t drink coffee, I don’t drink soda… my R/O system is in constant use and I find that the replacement parts last FAR longer than recommended… like at least 2X, or 3X as long. A simple ppm meter, available on Ebay for under $20, is used to test the efficiency of your system.

Soundproofing ceilings… cost effective options?

Making the basement into a seperate room/apartment and unfortunately you could hear stuff going on upstairs.

I’m looking into the fiber glass insulation, but I would have to cut open the ceiling and stuff it in there.

Does anyone have any experience with the ceiling tiles or whatever those things are which just get glued on? How well does that work? Also, does your ceiling then look like an office because it resembles a drop ceiling?

Final option is another layer of sheetrock. I’ve been told that works better than anything Any experience?

A/C not working right?

Ok so I had an AC guy come out and put in some Freon. After about 2 weeks of me setting the thermostat on 67-69 degrees and the house being at 76-79 degrees I decided he didn’t do something right. I call someone else, they come in, say the previous person over charged it with Freon. So I pay the necessary money for him to remove what I previously paid for. Now, two days later, and even hotter outside, I am having the same problem only worse!!

I run the thermostat at 65 no less and the house during 2pm until about 2am is at 76+ degrees. Which is TOO HOT for me. So I am not sure what to do from here. Both AC guys said there was no leak or any other problems. The only similar issue was that the upstairs attic portion of the unit was just old and not the best compatibility with the newer outside unit.

Making my room less childish?

Hi all.
I have a REALLY childish room, and I hate it. I don’t want to paint it, as that’s already happening at some point, but apart from that, any general ideas, like when a kid goes from kid to teen, what did you do? What did, if you have them, your kids do?
I’ve though tidying up, taking down all my posters, minus my metallic spiderman one, buddah one and brown one, putting all my crap under my bed etc. But any other ideas?
I NEED more storage, I have more books and DVD’s then I have shelf space, and it’s rediculous, any ideas?

Small job I did for a friend (grade cut)

actually the second part of it, the rear yard was basically a slope from the fence on the top of the hill down to the neighbors yard, In january I did the first part of it so he could build the retaining wall on the left side.

Came back to remove the stumps and get it closer to final grade so he could complete his walls.

Ill see if I have some pics from how it looked before the first cut.

How to clean silicone utensils

I have pink kitchenaid silicone utensils and used them to make curry, and they are now stained yellowish. Washing alone does not get it off. Anyone know any tricks to get rid of this and make it pink again?
Good luck. Try soaking in a bleach solution, but curry usually stains things for good.
Yeah that curry probably isn’t going to come out. Best bet is bleach like Laurel said. I made satay the other night and my fingernails are yellow from the spices. I look totally diseased hahah.

Spring loaded latch – where can I find it?

OK, I need a two piece surface mounted latch that can click into place by spring and spring loaded release by the same means.

something that looks like this

main difference being that a spring would force the latch to shut when brought together and could release by spring would pushed in. obviously the latch would not fit into a groove either but rather a slight curve that it could hook onto but also slide out of.

so where can i get this in a hardware store or what can i ask for? i looked around all over but i couldnt find anything or i wasnt looking in the right department. im a complete home improvement/construction noob…

Sound proof interior door? Anyone have one/know anything about where to get it?

I’m looking for a solid core interior door which doesn’t transmit sound easily. Home Depot is full of clowns. JELD-WEN makes some kind of ProCore quiet door which is sold through Home Depot but Home Depot idiots told me they don’t carry this door although they have posters for it on the wall.

Anyways,

Anyone know of such doors?
Home depot does/should carry them. But you’re probably best off to go to a trim and door place. Just ask for a solid core/fire rated safe and sound door.
